Complex Walking Difficulties
A 2 Channel stimulator can be used to help with the more complex walking difficulties eg, Foot drop on both feet, knee instability etc.
The 2 Odstock Medical 2 channel stimulator is currently the only functional medical device that has two channels.
Upper Limb Service.
Electrical stimulation can be used to retrain active movement, alleviate spasticity and muscle shortening as found in the ‘clench fist’ or reduce pain from shoulder subluxation. The number of appointments will depend on whether the FES is being used to:
- Prompt appointment at your most local clinic
- A comprehensive assessment and consultation
- A trial of the system to experience the beneficial effects
- Setting of achievable Goals
- Individualised therapy to obtain the optimum from FES treatment
- An individualised training programme including therapy and FES
- Individualised Home exercise and stretch programme
- Regular follow ups as needed.
